4th grade math worksheets - we know that kids in the 4th grade start to workin on decimal operations, which is a huge step up for them. At this level students are required to learn to solve a bit more complex equations, these equations are based on the same concepts that have already been through; but in a more complex aspects. Which is where our worksheets can help your child the most, as they will need a slow and easy transfer from where they were at, to where they will go. Each child is different, and prefers a different learning method. A developing and growing method, that might work same for some kids, might not work the same way for others. Which is why we have broken down the categories we want children to excel in, and offer them specific worksheets; which lets them work on one skill at a time. Where there are more complex matters involved, we will start from the basic worksheets, and make them more complex with time. This way students will not feel overthrown, or burdened be excessive information. As we see many times, that children are left confused as they are handed something they have yet to learn, is is never a good idea to hand your children an advance level worksheet, until and unless they have covered all the basics. Maths is a highly complex, and interesting subject and it requires support to teach; which is why we believe our worksheets will be the perfect solution. There is no doubt that maths is a puzzle, and at times the best way to solve a puzzle is by writing its solution down. Similarly, present our worksheets as a puzzle to your kids, a small challenge if you may, so kids are excited and curious towards it. Our worksheets will cover division and multiplication skills, fractions and mixed numbers, patterns, and place value, patterns, decimal operations, and place values.
4th grade Topics Covered:
Fractions: Under fractions, students evolve from basic fraction concepts of recognizing fractions through shapes to adding, subtracting, dividing, and balancing fraction equations. These concepts are also applied in real life scenarios through word problems that capture the essence of the notion. Students can relate the concept to money, shopping, cooking, time and more.
Addition: Students will learn addition of large numbers up to 6 digits. More interestingly, they will learn how to solve logic word problems involving case studies involving money, quantities, days at work and more. Addition can also be found blended in mixed operations; these 4th grade sheets have them all covered.
Subtraction: Like addition, the concept and rules of subtracting are covered through adding large numbers, word subtraction problems, pre-algebra involving subtraction and more. 4th graders will test their skills in different aspects of subtracting small to 6 digit numbers.
Division: Learn what it means to divide. At this level students were introduced to the concept with small numbers and visual representations of division processes. In fourth grade, they take it a step further to involve logic and division word problems. Divisibility rules also come in handy.
Telling time: Students get to learn aspects of telling time on clocks but also other interesting concepts related to time like elapsed time, time need to do tasks, minutes and hours in different standard measurements like days, years and more. There are also logic problems involving converting the units of time and more.
Algebra: Concepts of algebra are taken a step further here to include finding missing values in linear equations, using values from linear equations to plot graphs, applying algebra in solving real life word problems and more. Algebra at 4th grade level is challenging yet fun for kids. Use these algebra worksheets to improve your skills.
Percentages, Rations, Decimals: Worksheets covering these sections basically teach you how to convert from one form to another. It also teaches how to apply these notions in everyday life scenarios like finding percentages of time or money left and more. There are also puzzles covering this topic. Each sheet has answer keys attached.
Graphs: There are different types of graphs used for representing different types of data. Some graphs can be used for different representations. However, some are more suitable. For examples word problems involving data of visitors to a town on different days of a week can be represented on linear or bar graphs but can also be represented in circle graphs. There are several exercises related to this topic and more interestingly word problems related to graphs.
Money: Students will learn how to solve money related word problems but also how to recognize coins in this case US dollar coins. An exercise on money is always fun. Students will also solve word problems on money. Almost every student in 4th grade has an idea what money is and can relate to this topic.
Probability: This is the possibility of likelihood of something occurring. It is a topic that teaches kids why you can spin the wheel and not always get the arrow pointing to your desired area or why when a dice is cast it likely shows a different phase each time. In life several occurrences depend on probability from winning a game to weather changes. These and more are studied here.
Number theory: This is a broad topic that encompasses different aspects of number from basic counting to even, odd numbers, spelling numbers, ordinal numbers, number sequences, Roman and Arabic numerals, prime numbers and more. Each sheet teaches a particular skill on numbers. Print out each remember the answers are attached to each sheet.
Multiplication: Multiplying two numbers means finding the product of both numbers. In earlier levels students are introduced to the concept visually. However, at this level, students get to solve larger numbers and also apply this skill in solving word problems and math puzzles.
Note for Teachers and Parents: Each sheet can be used as test paper but remember there is an answer key attached on the second page. Avoid students falling on this page and recopying the answers. Always take out the second page of each sheet. Remember these resources are free and can be shared online provided you mention our website.
Your child will be primarily focused on three major areas of mathematical development in the 4th grade – their arithmetic acumen, especially with concerns to multiplication and division involving multiple digits; their manipulation of arithmetic problems that include fractions; and their continued exploration of the properties of several geometric figures.
As a parent or professor, honing a child’s mathematical prowess takes time, effort, and several learning resources. We recognize your need for downloadable 4th grade math worksheets online so you can prepare your student’s upcoming quizzes, activities, or assignments conveniently – that’s why we’re offering a bunch of math worksheets on this page for you.
The 4th grade will see your child honing their multiplication and division skills further. By this point, they’ll have had ample practice with adding and subtracting, and so the focus will shift towards the harder half of the arithmetic operations. Around this time, they will encounter another topic related to multiplication – identifying the factors of a certain number, as well as finding common factors between numbers.
They’ll also be delving deeper into fraction problems – namely in determining equivalent fractions, composing and decomposing fractions from their units, and multiplying whole numbers to fractions.
The 4th grade covers a wide range of additional topics to match your child’s rapidly developing mental abilities. They’ll be dealing with a host of challenging problems that range from operations with decimals, memorizing and using basic number properties, and solving and converting values between the Imperial and Metric systems.
Much of mental mathematics is performed imprecisely – rounding off numbers so that you can quickly arrive at a near estimate of the actual answer. To that end, your child will also be honing their skills at rounding off.
Children at this year level can learn the concept of using a variable to represent an unknown quantity. They can subsequently be introduced to a rudimentary form of algebra and be taught how to derive missing values.
The 4th grade also aims to increase a child’s capacity to extract useful information from a set of statistics. Later in the year, their math curriculum will feature lessons on how to find the mean, median, mode, as well as the range in a list of data.
Lastly, in the field of geometry, your child will continue to develop their speed and efficiency in deriving the areas and perimeters of various shapes. It will be beneficial for them to internalize the area formulas for several shapes. Geometry will become a little more challenging with the introduction of volume problems as kids learn to find the volume of several three-dimensional shapes – from the unassuming cube or cylinder to the classic pyramid.
